The official website for the book Children's Tales of the Universe

The Children's Tales of the Universe Series is a series of books by Daniel Dilger and Jack Ferguson. It is a comedy twisting modern scientific theories to create a reality the characters must endure. The two current books of the series, Children's Tales of the Universe (CTU) and Worship your Vermin (WYV) are available as free e-books to anyone who wants to click on the link. Hard copies of the books may also be purchased through our publisher, Lulu.com.

What's New

Enjoy the newest release of Zebonian Chess. Monkey and Peasant Chess still aren't on here, and due to their complexity they probably won't. I'd really like to focus more on improving the AI of the games I have than adding new games. At the moment, each game but Adultery Chess has beaten me consistently on medium and above, but it hasn't beaten everyone that it's been tried on. Maybe I'm just a bad Chess player. Nevertheless, it's a step up from the AI of the first release. Also, several bugs have been found and fixed, and a new user feature has been added. It is now possible to let the computer just play against itself to see how intelligent it really is. I'm going to do some more lower-level programming for a while, but I will take the time to make at least one more release of Chess this year.

Just one hitch: expect the code to be slow. I didn't program with the files in a JAR (that's impossible since JAR is a package of compiled code) I was unaware that somehow something new in my code made the program fail in JAR form. The only solution I could find was make the environment for the code online exactly as it was on Netbeans: by loading files from a folder rather than an efficient JAR bundle. It works, but the response time is slower than it was in previous releases. This, coupled with the fact that the program now spends longer time thinking on harder levels, can make playing the game somewhat cumbersome. You can speed up the game a little by playing on an easier level, but of course then you have a less challenging game.
